BISQUE CLASSIC TOWEL RADIATOR

Designer radiators take on many shapes and come in many sizes. STEEL

Steel designer radiators are the standard for the designer radiator industry. They are easy to work with, and relatively cost effective to manufacture. Most painted radiators as well as chrome model are made from steel, and the industry standard for them is a guarantee of 5 years.

Be wary of unscrupulous retailers who are offering 10 years (or sometimes even more!) on steel designer radiators, the manufacturer won’t exist in a few years’ time, never mind 10 or 20 years. The absolute highest quality radiator producers throughout the world (Bisque, Eskimo, Zehnder, Arbonia, MHS etc), will only provide a 5 year guarantee on their good quality steel with carefully manufactured designs.

ALUMINIUM

Similar to steel, aluminium is a great material for designer radiators to be made from, as it’s lightweight and convects thermal energy very efficiently. The most common warranty for aluminium products is 5 years, but it isn’t too uncommon to see 10 years being offered by the likes of Aeon, a luxury, high-end of the range brand.

Radiators like our own DRS Brescia are perfect examples of the efficiency of aluminium. Using only 1/10th of its design to hold water means that it is tremendously efficient, and looks simple but sleek at the same time.

STAINLESS STEEL

The cream of the crop for radiator quality and guarantee length is stainless steel. By making an alloy of both steel and chrome, we create an opulent looking metal which in the right hands can be worked into amazing shapes, and will last for decades.

Stainless Steel is where the biggest swings in warranties come about. Most manufacturers offer 20-25 years for their stainless steel beauties (Aeon and Reina for example), but some brands like SBH offer exceptionally sturdy, full life-time guarantee on their designer radiators.

CAST IRON

It may seem odd because of how susceptible iron is to deterioration, but our cast iron designer radiators from the amazing specialist Paladin are so carefully protected, sealed and finished that they can confidently offer a full 10 year guarantee on their products.

One of the simplest things that can cause you to lose heat in your radiators, and cost you more money, is trapped air in the heating system. Bleeding your radiator is the solution, but just how do you go about doing that?

HOW DID THAT AIR GET IN THERE?

Air can enter your heating system a number of ways, but the most common ways are down to faulty parts on the system (like a failing pump for example), or corrosion in the system causing hydrogen to be released via chemical reaction.

When these gases are released into the system they naturally travel to the highest part of it they can (like air trapped in a bottle), and settle there, taking up space which could otherwise be filled with hot water, causing your radiator to be cool near the top.

HOW TO BLEED YOUR RADIATORS

You will need;

• An old towel, cloth or some kitchen roll to catch any water which comes out
• A bleed key; we recommend purchasing a multi-purpose 4-way key which features square, triangle and other shaped keys for a variety of utility cupboards and bleed valves

1. First, turn on your heating and make sure all of your radiators are on. Then go radiator by radiator to determine exactly which ones require bleeding by feeling towards the top of the radiators for cold spots
2. Once you know which ones have trapped air, locate the bleed valve. At the top of your radiator on one end you will find a bleed valve with a smaller inner piece to turn and open to release the trapped air
3. Using your bleed key, position your cloth gently around the valve and slowly open it. You will hear a hissing and the sound of air being released. By gradually releasing the air you will be more prepared for once the air is all gone and water tries to escape.
4. Once water starts spilling into your chosen cloth/towel, close of the bleed valve until firmly shut

All done! Move on to the next radiators (if there are any) and repeat the process until finishes.

• Made from Aluminium and so it is able to convect a lot of heat without using as much water as a steel alternative
• On its own it will slightly reduce your heating bills, but if you change all of your home’s radiators then the savings will be considerable
• A ‘Double’ panel radiator, meaning that it has two sets of heating panels for much higher heat outputs
• Available in both White and Anthracite grey, and both finishes superbly suit the modern home
• Due to its lightweight build it is an easy radiator to receive delivery for and store (and easier for your plumber to fit as well!)

IN DEPTH

The Brescia takes its name (and the inspiration for its good looks) from the gorgeous Italian city of the same name. The Brescia features a second set of heating panels on its rear side as standard, which allows it to hold nearly double the water, and likewise it produces nearly twice as much warmth for your room.

Each of the Brescia’s slanted panels is paired together with a matching alternately slanted panel which makes for a soft undulation which creates an entirely unique look for the radiator and has been extremely popular with our customers both online and in our showroom.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

The DRS Brescia features our 5 year manufacturer’s guarantee, which is the industry standard for Aluminium models, and so if anything was to turn out to be faulty within that time we would provide a replacement radiator for you and collect your faulty model free of charge.

The Brescia is available in only four sizes;

• Height: 600mm x Width: 560mm
• Height: 600mm x Width: 748mm
• Height: 600mm x Width: 936mm
• Height: 600mm x Width: 1124mm

This means that is isn’t the most flexible radiator out there, however most homes will be able to fit a radiator from the sizes available, it’s just a problem if you have an obscure space available that is particularly wide or short which requires something outside of those sizes, but that’s quite rare.

VERDICT

While the DRS Brescia is our own radiator, we want to give an honest review of it, and overall we feel that while the Brescia is limited by its selection of sizes, it is easily one of our most attractive designs. It produces a good amount of heat without breaking the bank to purchase, leaving you with more funds available to buy the wonderful valves and sleeving kits which finish off the design.

It’s a solid purchase for any home looking for a modern designer radiator to really set off the décor of any room it is put in.

LET’S TAKE A CLOSER LOOK

Bisque take great pride in all of their work, but the Bisque Arteplano is a radiator which they quite rightly make a lot of noise about across their website, brochure and other publications. Each time one is made, not only do Bisque go through all of the normal processes associated with manufacturing from Aluminium, but also have their patination artists work magic on the final product to create a completely distinctive design. No two Arteplano radiators are the same.

 

 

Juxtaposing one another wonderfully, the Brass and Copper tones catch your eye and capture your imagination instantly and get your creative juices flowing. These radiators are not just features; they become a huge part of the theme of your decoration, enhancing your décor, your lifestyle and your outlook.

 

 

SUPERB MATERIALS

The Artelpano’s hidden engine at the rear circulates hot water throughout its design and provides ample warmth despite a flat panel design which wouldn’t normally produce as much heat as a tubular alternative.

 

 

It will not be able to heat an enormous space, but due to the aluminium used for the rear side of the radiator it is able to very efficiently convect heat into the surrounding air very quickly, a much more capably than similar steel alternatives.

 

HANDY SIZING

The Arteplano is available in three vertical and three horizontal sizes. The height remains the same each time, while the widths change as below;

Horizontal

• 601mm x 1013mm – VJ-56-100

While there aren’t many sizes available for the Arteplano, it is intended to be a work of art that you shape your room around and take tremendous pride in. Vertical models will typically have a grander affect, but the horizontal sizes can be used in interesting ways to make them stand out from the rest.

 

VERDICT

At DRS we believe that the Arteplano achieves exactly what Bisque set out to do in creating a magnificent feast of colour for the eyes, and while it may not be particularly flexible or be able to heat huge spaces, that was never the intention.

 

 

The price point is high in the etched Copper and Brass finishes, but other finishes are available such as Brushed Aluminium and a selection of RAL colours, though the etched variations are the main attraction. Due to the amount of work and the nature of this individual design, we at DRS believe it to be worth the high-end price tag to stimulate any luxury household’s interior.

THE SWEETEST HONEY

The Aeon Honeycomb is unsurprisingly made up of a series of honeycomb shaped, hexagonal structures which connect together in a staggered series, making for a mouth-watering appearance.  It may look like a delicate design, but Aeon’s stainless steel manufacturing is second to none, so it boasts exceptional strength.

The slender design means that while the Honeycomb does produce heat, it isn’t in colossal amounts, just enough to heat the hive. This is a design feature which is perfect as a complementary heat source in larger rooms, and would be fine as the primary heat source in smaller bathrooms.

With a 20 year long guarantee Aeon are promising exceptional quality from the Honeycomb, and this can be seen in both its Polished and Brushed finished options.
